About us.
Honoring Our Past, Shaping the Future.
Riverwood Farms is a family-owned livestock and vegetable growing operation located in Powell, Ohio since 1970. We have evolved from a purebred cattle and sheep breeding operation to one raising beef, lamb, and vegetables for local consumption. We have roughly 3 acres dedicated to vegetable cultivation and utilize low-till, regenerative, soil building techniques on permanent beds. All of our livestock is pasture-raised and grass-fed.
At Riverwood Farms, we have a rich history as a leading seedstock nursery for superior livestock. Over the years, we earned a nationwide reputation for our top-quality sheep genetics, and even established a strong presence in foreign markets.
We once maintained around 200 brood ewes and an additional 40 ewes for our embryo program. We were proud of our semen bank for all our top rams, offering frozen semen to the industry and planning to provide frozen embryos by request. Production traits were and still are highly valued at Riverwood Farms. We raised three distinct breeds to address varying industry needs.
Our Polled Dorset flock, established in 1988, included 65 top-quality stud ewes. This flock was significantly influenced by our great stud ram "Legacy". Our Dorsets were our signature flock, living by the motto, "What you see is what you get." In 1995, we introduced a fullblood Dorper flock through the importation of South African embryos. This flock grew with the addition of ewe and ram lambs in 1996, reaching about 100 brood ewes. Our White Dorper flock, comprising 50 fullblood ewes, traced its lineage to South Africa via Australia.
While we excelled in the show ring, the true value of our breeding programs was always aligned with the needs of commercial producers. Today, we continue our legacy, though we no longer engage in sperm or breeding services. Riverwood Farms now focuses exclusively on providing top-quality beef and lamb to our valued customers.
